HEARERS, DOERS & TEACHERS

This last week has been relatively uneventful.  Especially if we compare it to previous weeks.  We haven't gone to any historical sites, or any major cities.  In fact, we've been staying in a little town on the Eastern side of Kentucky all this week.  Not much going on, but that's okay!  It's a nice break from all of the hustle and bustle of the East Coast.  We really enjoyed all of the sites, but it's been nice to slow down for a little bit, and unwind.

We had a great service on Sunday night.  I was able to present the ministry and preach at a Baptist Church in Danville, KY.  The Lord led me to preach a message on spiritual growth.  Then, I found out that the pastor had just finished preaching an 8 week series on spiritual growth!  Praise the Lord!  The pastor said that the message the Lord gave me was a good way to cap off the series.  It's good when God is in control!

For the message, I had two text portions: James 1:22-25, and Hebrews 5:12-14.  The main thought was this:  We need to move from being HEARERS of the Word, to being DOERS of the Word.  And then, we need to move from being DOERS of the Word, to being TEACHERS of the Word.  The truth is, our spiritual life hinges around preaching.  We can't get saved with HEARING the gospel, and we won't grow spiritually without HEARING the preaching of the Word.  But the Word of God tells us that we should not be HEARERS ONLY, but that we should HEAR and DO what the Word of God commands (James 1:22-25).  And not only that, we ought to reach a point in our Christian life in which we are able to TEACH others what we have HEARD and DONE (Hebrews 5:12-14)!  In other words, we need to grow spiritually so that we can be used of the Lord in the work of the ministry.

This next Sunday, we'll be heading into Illinois, where we have meetings until the end of the month.  Please keep us in your prayers!
