Happy Fourth of July!

Yesterday, our nation celebrated it's 235th birthday. On July 4th, 1776, 56 men pledged their life, liberty and property in order to defend the United States of America. By signing their names to the Declaration of Independence, those 56 men voluntarily made themselves the enemies of the British Empire. The die was cast. There was no going back. It makes me wonder whether or not that kind of Patriotism and Character of Convictions exists today. May it be found in us!

My family and I have had the privilege of traveling all around this country for the last ten months. Recently, we've been able to visit several historic sites related the birthplace of our nation. The timing couldn't have been better. Just a few days ago, I wrote about our trip to Indepence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed into law. (see blog posting entitled: "Independence Hall") It was a real blessing to us that we were able to follow up that trip to Independence Hall by visiting the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York State on the Fourth of July. We were able to listen to the Military Band play several Patriotic songs, and watch a tremendous fireworks display. The whole experience was incredible, knowing that General Washington himself once held his was headquarters in the area for over 16 months during the Revolutionary War - the longest he held them anyplace. And, in knowing that West Point was a key fortress, keeping the British ships out of the harbor. Add to that breath-taking views (see more pictures below), and beautiful weather, and the day couldn't have been any better!

A special thank you to Brother Paul Morrison, Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in Fishkill, NY, and his family for bringing us along with them on a very memorable trip to West Point!
