Today we were out at the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science. Shortly before we left, we were approached by a man and a woman. The man was a double-amputee and was being pushed by the woman (his wife) in a wheel-chair. They stopped and asked us for money so they could get a hotel room for the night. (I know what you're thinking: "I've heard this before!)
As soon as I saw the man, I thought of a passage of scripture from the book of Acts, which I've quoted below:
"And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; (3) Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. (4) And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. (5) And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. (6) Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." (Act 3:2-6)
Now, I didn't tell the man to rise up and walk! But I did give the man such as I had. I gave him a gospel tract, and told him that I didn't have any money to give him (which was true!), but I wanted to give him something much more important!
You know, the Bible tells us in I Peter 3:15: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" We need to be ready, regardless of the situation we are in, to be a witness for the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank God someone took the time to witness to us!
